The obSESSION Beta Edition Playtest

obSESSION™ has been in the pipeline for more years than I care to remember but after a lot of tweaking and adjustment it is finally being delivered into the hands of the public for evaluation and play. The Core Rulebook can now be purchased from DriveThruRPG, thought it is soon to be replaced (at no extra cost) with the Revised Players Guide, and a print copy of said Core Rulebook is available on Lulu, however that is not all that obSESSION™ has to offer. A Beta Edition of the complete Core Rules Set is available on DriveThruRPG alongside the Core Rulebook.

The obSESSION™ Beta Edition is a release designed to be used to playtest and improve the system before it's full and final commercial release. On it's initial release the Beta contained the Core Rulebook, a sample chapter from the forthcoming Simple Fantasy genre supplement and a "Extras" booklet. Now that the full release copy of the Core Rulebook is available from DriveThruRPG and Lulu the material available has slightly changed. While the Core Rulebook is still included it is no longer a part of the Beta rules, it is the full release copy, identical to that available under it’s own banner. As the revision of the Core Rulebooks continues the Players Guide will replace the Core Rulebook and the GMs Toolbook and Appendices will follow. For more on the Revised Players Guide see the Forums.

Purchase of the PDF Beta Edition will entitle you to receive the full Core Set when it is released, including the full versions of the Appendices. Over the course of the remaining development the Beta Edition will be revised to gradually bring it closer to the final Core Set. This will involve both the addition of the Appendix material and the removal of the "Extras" and the samples, though some material which originally surfaces in Extras will likely end up in the Appendices.

The obSESSIONForums on this site allow discussion of the Beta Edition and it is in those forums and on Facebook that announcements regarding the progress of development will initially be made, though "milestones" may well be posted on the News page of this site.
